Champions League Semi-Finals
Real Madrid V Man City
Well unless you are a Manchester City fan everyone has their fingers crossed for Real Madrid, for City not to do that treble, especially if you are a Manchester United fan. I don’t see a better opportunity than what Pep and his boys have got to actually do that treble. Let’s just focus on the Champions League, I mean Real Madrid, they couldn’t ask for a tougher semi-final opponent, the love affair that Real Madrid has for this cup competition is fantastic. Last season was a classic example and just shows everything about them, through what they came to, outstanding comebacks to reach the final against Liverpool and obviously taking the trophy back to Madrid. They are not going to lie down, they aren’t in great form this season, a little bit patchy at times but they do know how to win. They know what a big occasion the Champions League is and, as Liverpool and Chelsea would tell you, they are a class of their own. They will face a different animal from what City were maybe two or three months ago, they are almost the complete outfit now, different ways of playing and different ways of winning, they can go long, they can go the traditional Pep style and can also defend at the moment.
They are truly a great watch, probably halfway through the season I was bored watching them grind out results but now over the past five or six games they have been absolutely fascinating, Bayern Munich will tell you as well, they are so difficult to break down when they are in the mood. It’s great to see John Stones and Rodri playing in the middle, and he can go with a back four as well. Obviously, cannot miss out on Haaland, he’s back to scoring, enjoying play and he has added things to his game, with his tremendous hold-up play and bringing other players into action.
I cannot see past Manchester City, I know this is a competition that they normally slip up in at some stage, but I am gonna to Manchester City to actually win both legs and advance to the final.
Milan V Inter
The second semi-final is an all Italian affair, we obviously spoke about Napoli’s domination of the Serie A but these two certainly played their part, maybe not to the same extent and it’s great to see AC Milan back up there. They were in the wilderness for a while, new owners came in and took a bit of time to stabilise the ship but they are on the way up and looking to make history again in the Champions League. Up against Inter, who aren’t enjoying the best of time this season but you just feel that they have the edge at this stage of the competition that is not blessed with a lot of experience but can get the job done.
Over the two legs I am gonna go, Inter Milan to qualify for the final and with not many goals scored across the two sets of 90 minutes.
