One of the most historic and important races of the Formula 1 season is greenlighted for the weekend as racing fans welcome an iconic event of the international sporting calendar – the British Grand Prix!
FORMULA 1 BRITISH GP FORMAT CHANGES
As hundreds and thousands of fans dash towards the Silverstone circuit to witness an incredible championship battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, Formula 1 teams prepare to flip the traditional script on its head and implement significant format changes to the qualification process.
For the first time, Formula 1’s first Friday practice session will not be followed by the second practice – but by a traditional qualifying session on the same day. Results of the qualifying session will determine starting positions for the first Formula 1 sprint race on Saturday.
Although the sprint race will only be a 100km 30-minute session, the top three finishing drivers will be able to score points for finishing ahead of the pack (three for p1, two for p2 and one for p3). Finishing positions in the sprint race will also set the grid for the race on Sunday, making it crucial for drivers to avoid collisions and unnecessary retirements.

Race Winners
Max Verstappen – Championship leader Max Verstappen rocks into the weekend as the favourite at 2/3 (1.67) to win the race this Sunday. Red Bull’s young talent is enjoying the season of his career, with five wins already under his belt – along with a substantial 32-point gap to his closest rival Lewis Hamilton. The Dutchman is thriving in this year’s championship battle, smashing the previous tripleheader weekends and finishing first in France, Styria and Austria. Max Verstappen’s outright driver championship odds are also on offer at 1/4 (1.25).
Lewis Hamilton – Although he is not perched upon his usual first-place spot, Lewis Hamilton is still racing the socks off his W12 and somewhat keeping up with his opponent. Despite enduring floor damage courtesy of the Austrian curbs – which kept him from finishing any higher than fourth-place – the seven-time driver champion will know that the race for the title has only just begun. Hungry to make things right in front of a cheering home crowd, Lewis Hamilton is measured at 7/4 (2.75) to win at the Silverstone circuit for the eighth time in his career.
Top 3 Finishers
Sergio Perez – Red Bull’s second charging RB16B looks comfortable in the hands of Sergio Perez. To his credit, the two-time F1 race winner has found confidence in his machinery a lot quicker than Red Bull’s two previous drivers. Although he’s still off the pace of Max Verstappen, Mexico’s Sergio Perez has been able to disrupt Mercedes and assume responsibility when necessary. Enjoying third place in the driver standings with arguably the best car on the grid, Sergio Perez is calculated at 1/1 (2.00) to end the race with a spot on the podium.
Valtteri Bottas – Things may not be going according to the plan for Valtteri Bottas, but there aren’t many in the paddock who could ever fault his talent and quality. Although there have been a few times when he is simply off the pace and struggling with his machinery, the Finn has also admittedly endured more than his share of bad luck this season, with a couple of DNF’s plaguing his races. Knowing that his Mercedes seat could be taken away from him come the end of the season, Valtteri Bottas must build on his second-place Austrian GP result and show his team principal, Toto Wolff, that he is still capable of consistently fighting at the right end of the grid. Valtteri Bottas is at 5/7 (1.72) to spray champagne on the podium this Sunday.
Top 6 Finishers
Lando Norris – Fourth in the driver standings and frequently taking the fight to Mercedes and Red Bull, Lando Norris has become the standout driver of the season so far! The McLaren man has finished on the podium three times, including the last race in Austria, where he was unable to climb up to the second step due to a five-second penalty handed to him by the stewards. The English driver comes in at 1/6 (1.33) to grab a good amount of points and finish in the top six at his home Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc – The quality of Charles Leclerc was never up for debate, especially after the Monegasque driver managed to put his midfield car on pole for two races this year. Unfortunately, throughout the season, Ferrari’s tyre troubles have ensured that their fight is not against the Red Bulls or Mercedes but the McLaren drivers. While they might be off where they want to be, Charles Leclerc always poses a threat on the grid, with the two-time F1 winner at 1/2 (1.50) to secure a top-six finish this weekend.
Carlos Sainz – Although Silverstone might be a demanding circuit for the Ferrari’s SF21 front axles to handle, the Prancing Horses are in the midst of a renaissance. Carlos Sainz has spent his season showing off his capabilities, becoming one of the quickest drivers to settle into a new team and immediately be competitive. The Spanish driver has been outspoken about the work he has been putting in, and it is showing, especially with his recent fifth-place finish in the Austrian GP. Carlos Sainz comes in at 5/7 (1.72) to make the top six this Sunday.
Safety Car
The Safety Car is no stranger to the Silverstone circuit. In 2018 and 2019, the Safety Car was deployed to slow down the track after incidents involving Romain Grosjean and Antonio Giovinazzi. This time around, we’ve calculated the odds of seeing a Safety Car at 3/8 (1.38) during Sunday’s race.
