JASON MCATEER PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND UP

The Premier League is certainly ramping up. It’s definitely the business end of the season.

LIVERPOOL VS WATFORD

From a Liverpool perspective, they’ve done all the hard work by hanging on to City’s coattails, and we’ve seen City drop points in them trying to pull away from the Reds. Liverpool have hung in there, and they’ve been absolutely sensational. They’ve got the League Cup under their belt now, and the ‘quad’, as I’m calling it, is firmly within reach and the realms of what they’re trying to achieve.

The Champions League draw was good for them too, and I’ll get into that later, but for now, they’ve got a tough game against Watford this weekend.

Watford are fighting for their lives with two wins in the last 10, but a fantastic win against Southampton last time out will certainly help them with trying to get away from relegation. They’re obviously very much in that fight at the bottom, with Everton and Leeds just above them.

It’s all to play for Watford, but I just think Liverpool have got too much.

The form they’re in, what they’ve been doing over the last few weeks and keeping those clean sheets. The determination to get that Premier League title won – I don’t see them slipping up against Watford.

I’m going to go for a Liverpool 3-0 win against Watford.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS LEICESTER CITY

Leicester…I just don’t know what to make of Leicester.

Obviously, Brendan is under a bit of pressure, but he’ll tell you about the team’s problems in the defences areas – they’ve missed some players there. It’s not gone well for him for the last few weeks, they got a win against Brentford last time out, but it’s off the back of two disappointing results.

They come up against Manchester United, and I’ll say the same thing about them. Rangnick has not been able to find any kind of stability there. Results are still very inconsistent – you still don’t know what you’re getting from them. I think it’s only one win in the last five for Manchester United, so they’re not going well at all, especially with being knocked out of the Champions League as well during that run of fixtures.

Leicester will certainly try to make it hard for them. I think Manchester United have got enough when it comes to players, ability and class.

I’m going to go for a Manchester United 2-1 win against Leicester City.

  • A Manchester United victory is available at 13/25 (1.52), with a 2-1 result for the Red Devils measured at 7/1 (8.00)

CRYSTAL PALACE VS ARSENAL

As the lineup goes, this is probably one of the biggest games of the weekend.

Palace under Patrick Viera have certainly found a great bit of form, haven’t they? They’re going well. I think it’s only one defeat in their last six or seven games. They’ll be giving Arsenal a real run for their money.

A fantastic win for Palace and Viera against Everton in the FA Cup was just incredible. It puts them in a position to get to Wembley and try for the FA Cup Final. Will that be a distraction? I don’t think so. I just think they’re on a good run, and they’ll want to keep that going – confidence is high!

But then again, so is Arsenal. I’ve been so impressed with the way Mikel Arteta has gone about his business. We’ve spoken a few times together about the progression and how things have gone. I’m glad the board have stuck with him and given him the opportunity to turn things around; I think he’s got a fantastic sprinkling of young players, great talent that he’s getting really good performances out of. He’s got a settled team.

I was doing some of the prep for when Arsenal played Liverpool and Mikel picked the same team four or five times in a row which tells you about the consistency and confidence going into games. Obviously, Liverpool was probably a step too far for Arsenal to win, but they gave a good account of themselves – Martinelli was particularly good on the night. To get that next step for Arsenal, I just think they only need a bit of good recruitment in the summer, and they’ll be getting closer to the likes of City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

They’ve got Place this Monday. It’s going to be a big game, and I’m going to go for a draw in this one. I’m going to go for a 1-1 draw Crystal Palace vs Arsenal.
