LV BET players enjoyed the chance of a lifetime last Tuesday, 17 May, as they lined up at the home of footballing giants, West Bromwich Albion, and spent an afternoon playing on the hallowed turf of The Hawthorns.
Chosen by a raffle held on the 2 May, selected LV BET players were informed that they’d be swapping the stands for the grass and were instructed to prepare their boots for an experience they’d never forget.
Dividing themselves into the black and yellow team, LV BET players linked up with Baggie legends of old, including Paul Robinson, who made a name for himself in the world of football by racking up over 200 West Brom appearances between 2003 and 2010.
Team Black were the first side to open the scoring on the day when Harris threaded a ball through to McCall, whose shot was saved by Charlton, only to be tucked away by Rossiter, who followed up on the chance. (0-1)
Team Yellows’ Highland served up a pin-point cross straight to Johnson, who was able to connect well and head home an equaliser and bring his side level. (1-1)
Less than five minutes later, Harris was once again the architect of his side’s fortunes as he was able to find McCall, who cheekily chipped the keeper to gift his side the advantage once again. (1-2)
It was a role reversal which saw the Team Yellow get back onto level terms, this time, Johnson the provider, as Highland hammered home a low driving effort past the keeper into the bottom net. (2-2)
Team Yellow reopened the scoring by fashioning a chance out of nothing. After driving past a few players, Highland lacing a shot straight into the right corner of the post, securing his second goal of the day and pushing his side in front for the first time. (3-2)
Team Black’s Harris changed up his role from creator to goal scorer by finding the back of the net through a deflected shot which put it well past the hands of Charlton. (3-3)
Lalic pounced on the chance to put the Team Yellow back in front. After a wayward pass fell at his feet, Lalic chipped the goalkeeper from outside the box to produce one of the best goals of the day. (4-3)
Although he was instrumental in his side’s efforts going forward, Team Yellow’s Johnson was the first player to score an own goal on the day. A well-placed corner caused a bit of confusion in the box, with the ball ending in the net. (4-4)
Confusion caused havoc on both sides of the pitch. Lalic took full advantage of a miscommunication in the defence to bring his goal tally up to two and once again put his side, Team Yellow, in the lead. (5-4)
Round was on hand to level the score for Team Black by finishing off an effort created by the slick feet of Rossiter. (5-5)
Moments later, Rossiter found the net after he buried a shot from within the 18-yard box to claim his second of the day and gift Team Black the lead once again. (5-6)
West Bromwich Albion legend Paul Robinson found the feet of Rossiter on the halfway line who bore down on goal, took it past the keeper and secured his hattrick and Team Black’s seventh goal on the day. (5-7)
With about 10 minutes to go, Team Yellow hit back when Lalic found his teammate Rayner who was able to wrongfoot the keeper and sneak a strike past the goal. (6-7)
Here’s what Paul Robinson has to say about the LV BET Play on the Pitch event.
