MATCHDAY 1: GAME PREVIEWS
Newcastle V Aston Villa
A season that sees Newcastle United joining back into the Champions League arena, the fans are buzzing to get the season underway, but first order of business is hosting Aston Villa. Two exciting teams who have a lot of potential this season to cause trouble to the big names in English football. Unai Emery’s return to the Premier League has been fantastic, Aston Villa became a top half team showing great character and tactical awareness to disrupt opposing teams from operating as they wanted easily.
Newcastle invested in the midfield after they managed to persuade the AC Milan ace to join the Magpies for a huge fee of €64M, Sandro Tonali will add another exciting element to the young and willing side of Eddie Howe. The other addition to the squad has been Harvey Barnes for €44M, which will replace the absence of Allan Saint-Maximin. Aston Villa also flexed their muscles in the transfer market, reeling in Pau Torres for €33M and Moussa Diaby for €55M.
Focusing on the odds for the upcoming game we are pricing Newcastle as the outright favorites at 1.70, with Aston Villa to get off to a great start at 4.95, whilst a draw comes in at 4.10.
Anytime goalscorers we are pricing Alexander Isak at 2.50 whilst Ollie Watkins comes in at 2.50 as well.
Chelsea V Liverpool
Two teams who dropped off from their usual high standard last season take on each other in the first fixture. Maurizio Pochettino takes on Jurgen Klopp as he prepares to re-establish the pride in Stamford Bridge. The talent is there and he just needs to extract it on a weekly basis whilst also re-gaining the confidence of certain players such as Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and most of the defence. Looking into the prospect of Liverpool, finishing just outside the Champions League spots has affected the mood at Anfield.
Both teams have sold off a lot of players and they are preparing for a comeback. The battle between the two teams is set to be the main game to look forward to in the opening weekend with the odds in favour of Liverpool at 2.45, whilst Chelsea are at 2.90 to start and re-establish dominance at Stamford Bridge. A draw comes in at 3.60 with a draw or under 2.50 goals to be scored in the match at 1.65.
Brentford V Tottenham
Another squad who is preparing for a new era are Tottenham, who appointed Ange Postecoglou in summer to succeed Antonio Conte. The announcement came as a shock for some as they weren’t familiar with his coaching style and philosophy, but eventually, they will warm up to him after a couple of great results. The future of Harry Kane might be decided in the coming weeks but at the moment he is still a Spurs player. There are talks of the North London club swoop for Ivan Toney despite his sporting ban.
Brentford are yet to sign a replacement as currently they are without a recognised striker, they instead recruited the services of Nathan Collins €26.85M and Kevin Schade who is a right-winger €25M.
Moving onto the odds for who will win the first game of the season, we have Brenford coming in at 3.00, whilst Tottenham Hotspurs try and recover their reputation away from home at 2.35, with a draw priced at 3.65.
Burnley V Manchester City
After clinching an impressive title last season, conquering the Championship, Burnley now have the huge task to go toe-to-toe with the big guys again. Vincent Kompany really marked his arrival at Turf Moor as he re-invented their playing style to a more possession-based side which, at Championship level, had great success, but at Premier League level, it may be different. As late last season, when Burnley played against Manchester City and tried to play in their usual way, Manchester City ran riot.
Manchester City have made a name for themselves for starting off the season slowly and finishing off on their best form, so there might be a glimmer of hope for Burnley to cause an upset early on in the season. We are pricing Burnley to win at 10.00, with a Manchester City win coming in at 1.28 and a draw 6.25.
