With the start of the UEFA EURO 2020 (2021) Finals only a few months away, we’re diving into Group E and taking a look at which teams could go all the way in one of football’s biggest competitions.
Group E Teams
Spain
By qualifying for the UEFA EURO 2020 (2021) Finals without losing a single fixture, Spain enter Group E as the team to beat. With the old guard – who won both the European Football Championship and World Cup – mostly retired from international football, manager Luis Enrique will need to continue cultivating the talents of the new generation of La Furia Roja, and get them playing football like the Spain of old to progress deep into the competition.
Sweden
Sweden once again proved themselves on the national stage by finishing second in their qualification group, with only one loss away to Spain (3-0). Although without their historic talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Swedish national team still contains a number of quality players capable of making the difference, including Victor Lindelöf, Emil Forsberg and Robin Quaison; who played a vital role during their qualification campaign.
Poland
In only a few years since his appointment as manager, Jerzy Brzeczek has successfully rebuilt and refreshed the Poland National team, overseeing an almost entire overhaul of the squad. With their young promising stars in the form of Sebastian Szymanski and Krzysztof Piatek proving themselves capable of playing alongside experienced names like Wojciech Szczęsny, Robert Lewandowski and Arkadiusz Milik, Poland stand a great chance of making it past the initial stages and deep into the competition.
Slovakia
A 110’ minute strike by Michal Ďuriš against Northern Ireland during a play-offs sent final rocketed Slovakia into their third major competition since becoming an independent state. Although the odds are against them to make it out of Group E, Slovakia may go on to prove many critics wrong, especially with their captain and top scorer, Marek Hamšík still leading the firing line.
