Group A Review

The Netherlands, Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar were the participants of a well-fought-out Group A, which, for the most part, played out as expected. The Netherlands and Senegal progressed to the knockout stage of the World Cup by tallying seven and six points, respectively. The Ecuadorians, however, were sent packing, as were hosts Qatar, who didn’t give their nation much to celebrate.

The Netherlands

A 1-1 draw with Ecuador is the only wrinkle in the Dutchmen’s journey in the World Cup thus far. Spearheaded by a superb Cody Gakpo, the Netherlands beat Senegal and Qatar with a scoreline of 2-0, earning them a well-deserved qualification to the knockouts.

The Netherlands to win the first knockout fixture against the USA is priced at 3/8 (1.90).

Louis van Gaal will be hoping to continue his nation’s successful crusade against the USA, who only scraped by the group stages thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win against Iran. Can Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay make the Dutchmen fly?

Memphis Depay to score anytime is priced at 11/8 (2.37). The Netherlands to score in both halves is priced at 5/2 (3.50).

Senegal

A difficult start against the Netherlands was enough to spur the Lions of Teranga to two straight wins against Qatar and Ecuador, thus securing qualification to the knockout stage. Captained by Kalidou Koulibaly, who scored the winner against Ecuador, Senegal has proven to be a formidable side in this World Cup.

Senegal to qualify to the next knockout stage is priced at 13/4 (4.25).

After the relief of passing the group stage comes anxiety for coach Aliou Cisse, whose team now faces England in the knockouts. Senegal must tighten things up at the back if they want a chance at succeeding, given that the African nation has conceded four goals in three games so far.

We’ve priced both teams to score at 11/8 (2.37) and Kalidou Koulibaly to score at 12 (13.00).
