Group B Review

A group that consisted of England, Iran, Wales and the USA was a good watch from a neutral perspective. The biggest disappointment from this group was Wales, who failed to win a game and only scored once. Iran put in a gallant effort but fell short in the last hurdle against the USA.

England

Started off the campaign in spectacular fashion, and as England star, Jack Grealish remarked, ‘England are the best thing since sliced veg’ after that opening game against Iran. The Three Lions were expected to make it through the group, and the hard part now is getting through to the late stages of the tournament. Facing Senegal is not an easy task, and England would do well not to be complacent.

England to qualify to the next knockout stage is priced at 2/11 (1.18)

Gareth Southgate didn’t change his team much apart from the pairing of Marcus Rashford, and Phil Foden in order to preserve the momentum and confidence of his players. The big test for England comes in the form of Senegal and fans hope that the attacking line are on the money to spearhead them into the quarter-finals.

England to win the game to nil is priced at 8/7 (2.15), with Marcus Rashford to score anytime during the game at 11/8 (2.37)

USA

The USMNT secured their passage to the knockout phase by a singular goal from the usual hero Christian Pulisic against Iran. The American attacker put his body on the line to head home the winner, much to the jubilation of the American nation inside the stadium and back home. The USA now face the Netherlands in the round of 16 match.

The USA is priced at 9/5 (2.80) to qualify for the next knockout stage.

In the first few games in the World Cup, the USA looked to press high and forced their opponents into a mistake, a tactic that they managed well in the first half against Wales. Serginho Dest also looked lively in the last game providing the assist to Pulisic and also whipping in dangerous deliveries in the box. A similar approach will be in place against the Netherlands, who might be weaker on the wings with their three-at-the-back formation.

The USA is priced at 7/4 (2.75) to score first in the game, with Christian Pulisic providing a goal in the game at 11/4 (3.75)
