The Eurovision Song Contest is back for another year, with excitement brewing from all ends of the world. This 2023 rendition will be held in Liverpool — a UNESCO City of Music and the home of the Premier League football clubs, Everton F.C. and Liverpool F.C.
The competition will be split into two Semi-Finals, with the first held on the 9th of May and the second on the 11th of May, where all countries besides the Big Five will be able to sing their hearts out and perform to the best of their abilities to impress the jury and voters. The Top 10 countries from each Semi-Final which gather the most points will move on to the Grand Final, where they will join the Big Five and Ukraine for the final time.
Countries with High Odds of Winning
According to predictions, the odds of Sweden taking home the trophy are high. The song ‘Tattoo’ by Loreen, a former Eurovision winner with the song ‘Euphoria’ in 2012, boasts a winning chance of 39% and odds of 1.4. Sweden is one of the most successful Eurovision Song Contest winners of all time, with a total of six victories and 26 Top Five results under their wing.
Finland, Ukraine and Norway are not too far behind in the rankings, with the odds of winning set at 4, 5.2 and 12 respectively. All three are known to be quite strong competitors in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Ukraine winning just last year’s edition with the song ‘Stefania’ by Kalush Orchestra. The United Kingdom, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, Israel and Georgia are also predicted to feature on the Top 10 scoreboard.
Countries with Lower Odds of Winning
France, Italy, Serbia, Switzerland and Croatia have fair chances of winning, with odds taking the middle mark. France and Italy are both part of the Big Five, meaning that their performances will be sent straight to the Grande Final without qualification in the Semi-Finals needed. On the other hand, entries from Lithuania, San Marino, Malta, Belgium and Romania are not predicted to be as strong, with lower winning odds of 200. The chances of these countries qualifying for the Grande Final are lower than others, but the tides could always turn.
At the end of the day, the Eurovision Song Contest is always filled with mysteries and surprises. It all boils down to the overall performance and entertainment factor that each country can give to the audience.
