CHELSEA V DORTMUND

Chelsea are currently enduring a goal drought and the pressure is starting to pile on Graham Potter as results have been poor. At the Signal Iduna Park, Chelsea created a myriad of chances but Joao Felix first fluffed his chance wide and his second opportunity was denied by the bar. An off-the-line clearance by Emre Can saved the day, as Koulibaly’s shot proved to be stronger than Gregor Kobel anticipated. A narrow 1-0 win for Graham Potter is priced at 6/1 (7.00), forcing extra time to be played to decide who makes it to the next round.

The ambitious side of Edin Terzic, perfected the game plan of limiting the chances created by Chelsea and, when the occasion presents itself, hitting them on the transition. Having the likes of Adeyemi on your squad gives you and the team the ability to target the areas behind the right back Reece James. A similar tactic might be employed by Dortmund at Stamford bridge by the lead is a slender one and could be disastrous if they concede early on. We are pricing a 1-1 draw at 13/2 (7.50).

Match Odds: Chelsea being the home side are at 4/5 (1.80), whilst another win for Borussia Dortmund is valued at 13/4 (4.25)

BENFICA V CLUB BRUGGE

After a sublime showing in the group stage, Club Brugge lined up against Benfica who won Group H. In the first half of the tie, Brugge played the best football, creating chance after chance. They did go in front, but the goal was chalked off for offside. From that moment onwards, it all collapsed for the Belgian outfit, they conceded a cheap penalty, and later on, the defender was caught in possession, allowing a free run at goal for David Neres, who made it 2-0.

Benfica are currently unbeaten at home in all competitions this season, making the task for Club Brugge to overturn the result even more difficult. The pedigree of Benfica in the Champions League cannot be overstated, and with the pace of Rafa Silva, coupled with the incisiveness of David Neres and the clinical finishing of Goncalo Ramos, they have good value for their lead in the tie. We are pricing another 2-0 victory for the Portuguese team at 6/1 (7.00)

Club Brugge created plenty of opportunities to score but failed to convert, which in the Champions League, you are bound to pay for missed chances. The quality is so high that a small lapse in concentration could be the difference between a win and a loss. Noa Lang, the former Ajax man, was the creator-in-chief and looked the most likely to inspire his team. We are pricing both teams to score during the match at 19/20 (1.95).

Match Odds: Benfica are the overwhelming favourites in this contest and are valued at 7/15 (1.47) to win whilst Club Brugge’s chances are priced at 6/1 (7.00).
