UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE – ROUND OF 16 PREVIEW

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE – ROUND OF 16 PREVIEW

UEFA Europa League

One of the most competitive editions of the Europa League is hotting up as we look ahead to some of the tasty ties from the round of 16. The teams who managed to seal first place in their respective group are in action again, whilst those who finished second battled the teams that dropped from the Champions League for a place in this round.

LV BET is here to offer you an insight into the games in the UEFA Europa League as well as some of the best betting tips to get you started. Make sure to check the LV BET Sports Blog where we cover all the major competitions around the world as well as other sports.

Sporting V Arsenal

A tight battle is predicted between Sporting and Arsenal, both clubs are in great form and, whilst Arsenal might be more concerned with their progress in the Premier League, a solid run in the Europa League can never do harm. Sporting dropped down from the Champions League after finishing third in the Tottenham Hotspurs group, Arsenal’s fiercest rivals.

What can we expect from this game? Both sides like to attack a lot and are creative enough to handle low-block defence lines. The first leg will be tight, both sides want to have a feel of the contest before going all in, with Mikel Arteta potentially looking to start with Trossard and Jorginho. The hub in midfield will overflow with talent as Pedro Goncalves and Marcus Edwards like to impose themselves on the game. Keep an eye out for the Portuguese team in transition as that is their primary strength

We are pricing a half time draw at 8/7 (2.15), with most of the goals being scored in the second half of the contest at 16/15 (2.07). A 1-1 correct scoreline is valued at 11/2 (6.50), leaving the contest to be decided at the Emirates. Nketiah to score anytime during the game is priced at 2/1 (3.00), with Pedro Goncalves at 2/1 (3.00)

Match Odds: Despite playing at home Sporting are not the favourites to win as they line up at 13/5 (3.60), with Arsenal at 16/15 (2.07), whilst a draw is valued at 12/5 (3.40)

Roma V Real Sociedad

Jose Mourinho is making Roma great again, improving them step by step. Last year, they managed to win the UEFA Conference league and now they are well positioned to make it to the latter stages of the Europa League. Real Sociedad are currently fourth in La Liga, and after sealing top place ahead of Manchester United in the group stage, they are looking forward to the next European battle.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in any European competition; the Spanish side has won just one of their six major European games against Italian teams (D2 L3), while Roma have won only two of their last 15 major European games against Spanish sides (D3 L10). Both sides will approach this tie with caution, but Roma might need to go the extra mile to secure a win and  go home with a lead to protect.

A narrow 1-0 win for Roma is priced at 5/1 (6.00), with Paulo Dybala being the anytime goalscorer at 17/10 (2.70). We are pricing Alexander Sorloth to net anytime at 15/7 (3.15), with two outstanding players feeding him balls in David Silva and Takefusa Kubo.

Match Odds: The home side start off as favourites as Roma are priced at 11/10 (2.10), with an away win for Real Sociedad at 8/3 (3.65), and a draw at 16/7 (3.30).

Man United v Real Betis

Once again, Manchester United line up against a Spanish team: Real Betis. Manchester United’s damaging defeat against Liverpool might well derail the progress that has been done under Ten Hag this season. On the other hand, Real Betis are currently in fifth place in La Liga, just three points behind Real Sociedad.

The Red Devils managed to dispatch Barcelona in the play-offs, which was monumental for the club and the players. Now the aim is to reach the final and potentially win the Europa League, but the Spanish sides perform at their best when they are up against a team such as United. Last weekend, they earned a draw at home against Real Madrid. In La Liga, they have conceded a lot of goals, 11 in five games which is troubling for a team who will face Manchester United at home.

In recent games United have performed well at Old Trafford and we are pricing a 2-0 win for the home side at 6/1 (7.00), with Marcus Rashford to score anytime during the game at 5/7 (1.72). Real Betis are priced at 8/3 (3.65) to be the first team to score.

Match Odds: Manchester United are the favourites to win the game at 3/8 (1.38), with Real Betis valued at 29/4 (8.25) and a draw at 23/6 (4.85)
