EUROVISION SEMI-FINAL: PREVIEW

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is right around the corner and the excitement is through the roof! This year’s edition will be held at the Liverpool Arena in the northwest of England, following Ukraine’s sensational win the previous year. The event will be hosted by Julia Sanina, Graham Norton, Hannah Waddingham and Alesha Dixon.

SEMI-FINAL 1

The former Semi-Final will be happening on the 9th of May at 21:00 (CEST). It is said to be the more difficult and competitive Semi-Finals of the two, with predictions for Sweden, Finland and Norway to lead the way.

Sweden is predicted to take the first-place spot in the Final, with a winning chance of 1.6. Loreen, a former Eurovision winner, is once again representing Sweden and her song ‘Taboo’ boasts high odds of 3.00 to win the first Semi-Final. Interestingly, we see that Finland is another strong contender with even higher odds of 1.52 of winning the first Semi-Final, alongside odds of 4.50 for the song ‘Cha Cha Cha’ by Käärija. Norway’s ‘Queen of Kings’ performance is also expected to succeed, with high odds of 15.00.

On the other hand, countries such as Ireland, Latvia, Malta and Azerbaijan have lower odds of winning Semi-Final 1 or the Grand Final, with odds set at 300. Of course, nothing is set in stone as of yet — one performance is all it could take to spin things around!

SEMI-FINAL 2

The second showdown will be on the 11th of May, where another 10 countries will sing for a spot in the Grand Final. Austria’s ‘Who The Hell Is Edgar?’ is a solid favourite, leading the way with high odds of 1.72 and Australia is close behind with odds of winning at 7.00. Another popular performance is that of Georgia, with the song ‘Echo’ and odds of 9.00.

Alternatively, the second Semi-Final also sees some weaker contestants. San Marino, Romania and Albania swim in rougher waters with lower odds of 250, 250 and 200 respectively.

GRAND FINAL

The Top 10 performances with the most votes in each Semi-Final will take it to the Grand Final on the 16th of May alongside the Big Five and Ukraine, where a winner will be crowned. Although Sweden currently has the highest odds of winning, it’s all up to the final performance and ultimately the jury and voters to decide which country should take the trophy home.
