FORMULA 1 MONACO GP: BETTING PREVIEW

FORMULA 1 MONACO GP: BETTING PREVIEW

The fifth race of the 2021 F1 calendar is right around the corner, as 20 Formula 1 drivers switch gears and gamble for points on the twisting  streets of Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, 23 May.

After another Mercedes vs Red Bull showdown in Spain on 9 May, the 2021 Monaco GP looks like another close race for the first-place finish between Sir Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The two Drivers’ Championship contenders will have to make pace and charge in qualifying — it’s all about the pole position in Monaco; the 3.337-kilometre Circuit de Monaco is notorious for its narrow bends and tight corners, making all 78 laps of the track less than ideal for overtaking.

Join us as we put the pedal to the metal on F1 Monaco GP betting markets, odds and pole-position favourites at the LV BET Sportblog — we’ll get you up to speed and straight to the chequered flag.

H2H Qualification

Max Verstappen VS Lewis Hamilton — Always amongst the favourites to take pole, Verstappen heads to qualifying at 13/20 (1.65) to outqualify Hamilton at the 2021 Monaco GP. With only 14 points separating the 23-year old from his Mercedes rival, starting the race at pole position may just be what Verstappen needs to shunt Hamilton off the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings.

After taking his 100th pole in Spain, the 2021 Outright World Championship favourite and last year’s Monaco pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton is measured at 11/10 (2.10) to outperform Verstappen and start the race ahead of the Red Bull on Sunday.

Valtteri Bottas VS Sergio PerezValtteri Bottas comes in at 1/2 (1.50) to outqualify Red Bull’s Sergio Perez this Saturday, who has shown his worth behind the steering wheel of the RB16B this year. With a promising performance in practice on Thursday, the Mexican driver is measured at 7/5 (2.40) to outpace Bottas in qualifying.

Race Winners

Max Verstappen — Time and time again, Red Bull have proven to be quicker in qualifying on any given track and are certainly bringing the challenge to Mercedes this 2021 F1 season. In a race where pole position and downforce are crucial, Verstappen’s RB16B is revved up with a slight edge over the W12 on the narrow twists and turns of the Monaco track. The 11-time race winner is this weekend’s favourite, starting the engine at 6/5 (2.20) to win the Monaco GP.

Mercedes Drivers — The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton is hot on Verstappen’s heels this Saturday, standing at 3/2 (2.50) to win the race and strengthen his grip on the top of the standings. Mercedes’ second seat Valtteri Bottas is lining up at 12/1 (13.00) to take lead of the race and at 11/10 (2.10) to spray prosecco alongside his teammate.

Charles Leclerc — Charles Leclerc has shown consistent performance in the last four Grand Prix and is entering his home round in Monte Carlo as the Practice 2 leader and at 9/1 (10.00) to surprise the fans with Ferrari red on the podium. To shower the competition with rubber, the Monégasque driver will have to show what he’s made of at qualifying; Leclerc is measured at 13/25 (1.52) to vie for the third win of his career and start the home-ground race ahead of the more experienced teammate Carlos Sainz, who is at 27/20 (2.35) to outshine Leclerc in qualifying and at 14/1 (15.00) to win the Grand Prix.

McLaren DriversLando Norris, who just signed a multi-year contract with McLaren, is at 99/1 (100.00) to finish the 78th lap victorious and stand atop the Monaco podium, as is his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, who was the Monaco pole-sitter in 2018. Norris outdistanced his partner in Practice 1 and 2, coming in at 1/3 (1.33) to eclipse Daniel Ricciardo in qualifying, who is at 9/4 (3.25) to bounce back and take the lead.

You can rest assured that all eyes will be on this duo at the 2021 Monaco GP — the team is bringing the iconic Gulf Oil blue and orange back to Formula 1 with a special one-off livery. McLaren will run the colours exclusively at the 2021 Monaco GP as an hommage to Gulf, celebrating their heritage and the 60-year partnership.
