FA CUP FINAL PREVIEW: MANCHESTER DERBY

FA CUP FINAL PREVIEW: MANCHESTER DERBY

FA Cup Final

After last weekend’s drama at Wembley, where play-off winners were decided, we have an even greater event to look forward to this weekend. Manchester City are hunting down the treble after winning the Premier League and are in both finals of the FA Cup and Champions League; their first obstacle is Manchester United. United are the only club to have clinched a treble in English football. The squad, together with their manic fan base, will hope they can halt City’s ambitions of winning the treble.

MANCHESTER CITY

A season in which all the accolades could be won, Manchester City approach the FA Cup final as the favourites to win, knowing that, should they beat their rivals at Wembley, they are just one step closer to winning the almighty treble. When you look at the first half of the premier league season, one would say that Man City are not really what they were the previous year, in some areas, they lacked conviction, Jack Grealish was not playing his best football, but Erling Haaland still scored a bucket-load of goals. The problem was their leaky defence, a very good example of this is the game at the Etihad Stadium against Man United, when the result was 6-3. During the World Cup break, Pep brainstormed solutions, and he came up with the secret sauce, which was John Stones.

A player who, since signing for City, was dubbed a failure but has proved himself to be a very useful tool. His move into the midfield created a midfield box, whilst three athletic centre-backs provided enough cover in defence and an overload in midfield to help his team control the game.

Both coaches have worked together before, during Pep Guardiola’s time with Bayern Munich, thus they share the same love towards total football, something that was highly advocated by the late Johan Cruyff.

We are anticipating a cagey opening few minutes with Manchester City controlling most of possession, with Manchester United trying to hit on the counter-attack, something that they did so brilliantly earlier in the season at Old Trafford. We are pricing a Man City win at 1.47, with Manchester City lifting the trophy at the end at 1.22 and a Jack Grealish goal is at 4.60

MANCHESTER UNITED

A season of rebuild for Manchester United, and it could be said that it has been a successful one, winning the Carabao Cup, third place in the League and in the FA Cup final. Erik ten Hag has had an incredible impact on the team, aided by the signings of both Casemiro and Eriksen, who fortified the engine room in the heart of the team. In the upcoming transfer market, they will surely be in the hunt for a striker, seeing how poorly they performed in front of goal. There might be a certain Harry Kane who would be eager to jump ship, but he won’t be cheap, like any other signing by the Reds.

Looking ahead at the chances of Manchester United upsetting their rivals, they are looking rather slim, but as United showed this season, they can beat the big teams. With that said, wins against Liverpool, City and Arsenal all came at home.

Manchester United are priced at 6.00 to win the game in 90 minutes, whilst their chances to lift the trophy by either extra time or penalties is at 3.75
