World Cup VenuesWith the FIFA World Cup just around the corner we will run through all the venues that will host the fixtures in November: 

Lusail Stadium

Capacity: 80,000

Location: Doha, Qatar

The 80,000-seat stadium will embody Qatar’s ambition and its passion for sharing Arab culture with the world. The Lusail Stadium will be the venue where the Final will be held with billions around the globe watching on.

The design of this magnificent stadium is inspired by the interplay of light and shadow that characterizes the fanar lantern. Its shape and facade echo the intricate decorative motifs on bowls, vessels and other art pieces found across the Arab and Islamic civilisations.

Stadium 974

Capacity: 40,000

Location:  Doha, Qatar

This modern stadium is constructed from Shipping containers and modular steel, echoing the nearby port and Doha’s maritime history. 974 is the international dialling code for Qatar, as well as the exact number of shipping containers used in construction. 

The innovative design will make it the first fully demount-able tournament venues in FIFA World Cup history, introducing a bold new ideas for things to come in the future of the competition.

Khalifa International Stadium

Capacity: 40,000

Location: Al Rayyan 

Built in 1976 originally but recently transformed to be one of the stadiums for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. To warm up for such an event, the stadium has hosted Arabian Gulf Cup and FIFA Club World Cup matches as well as the IAAF World Atheltics Championships.

Located at the center of all the 2022 venues, the stadium will play a pivotal role in this tournament, whose unique geographical position together with its advanced transport systems will make it the best-connected international football competition ever.

Al Janoub Stadium

Capacity: 40,000

Location: Al Wakrah 

One of Qatar’s oldest continuously inhabited areas Al Wakrah. At the inauguration, a stunning pre-match show paid tribute to Al Wakrah’s heritage and to Zaha Hadid, the architect who designed the futuristic shape of the venue. 

This stadium already hosted Semi-Final of the Arabian Gulf Cup in 2019 as well as the Amir Cup 2019 Final.

Al Bayt Stadium

Capacity: 60,000

Location: Al Khor, Qatar

The stadium design honours Qatar’s past and present, while keeping one eye on the future of the community. With Qatar’s sustainability goals firmly in mind, its creation will be a model of green development. It will be surely be one of the arenas shining an example for future stadium construction.

A spectacular feature about this stadium is that its designed to be a true nomad’s tent, with plans being that after the tournament the top tier seating will ber emoved and given to developing nations that need sporting infrastructure – a lasting reminder of Qatar’s generous spirit.

Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium

Capacity: 40,000

Location: Al Rayyan, Qatar

This stadium opened its doors to the world on 18 December 2020 hosting the Amir Cup Final of that same year. 

Located in one of Qatar’s most traditional cities. Sustainability in mind using environmentally friendly building materials and practices. Once the tournament has run its course, almost half of the stadium’s 40,000 seats will be removed and given to football development projects abroad.

Al Thumama Stadium

Capacity: 40,000

Location: Doha, Qatar

This stadium is a testiment to the Arab culture and traditions, just as much as the tournament itself. The circular design reflect the gahfiya – a traditional woven cap adorned by men and boys all across the Middle East for centuries. 

The stadiums inaguration was as host of the 49th Amir Cup Final in 2021, a fitting match to be played showing off the stadium that is steeped in the local tradition.

Education City Stadium

Capacity : 40,000

Location: Ar Rayyan, Qatar

This ultramodern arena is circled by leading universities, where cutting-edge research is conducted and academics inspire their students to be at their best. Similarly to other venues, the capacity will be reduced by half after the tournament with most of the seats being donated to developing countries hoping to cultivate a passion for the game around the globe.
