JASON MCATEER EFL CUP FINAL PREVIEW

Jason McAteer preview

Manchester United take on Newcastle United this Sunday in the EFL Cup Final at Wembley.

Newcastle United are without a trophy since 1969 and obviously still talking about that defeat in 1999, almost 24 years ago, when Manchester United beat them in the Cup Final. Hopefully, Eddie Howe’s men can make amends and get some silverware back to Tyneside.

Manchester United and Erik ten Hag have been in an insatiable form since the return of the Premier League after the World Cup, only losing one game in the last 17. Their talisman, Marcus Rashford, has been in great form scoring all types of goals – he has scored 16 in the last 17. The English striker will test what is probably a leaky Newcastle defense, having done so well building a foundation of a really good season.

Nick Pope will be missing in this game due to suspension, but they do have Bruno Guimareas in the middle of the park to give them an added layer of protection in front of that back four and hopefully he can fire them up.

Isak looks like to play in front with Almiron to get back on the scoresheet but it’s going to be a tough ask for Newcaslte and Eddie Howe. Favourites going into the game are Manchester United, I think Manchester United will win the game, I think it will be 2-1 to United at 15/2 (8.50), I think Rashford will get on the scoresheet again at 33/25 (2.32), who will be a tough ask to keep him quite over the afternoon for Newcastle.

So I am going for Marcus Rashford to score and United to win 2-1 and over 2.50 goals in the match at 19/20 (1.95).
