JASON MCATEER – PREMIER LEAGUE PICKS

Man City V Liverpool

These games are absolutely fascinating, Klopp and Guardiola, I mean, they chop and change their tactics so many times over the years. I remember watching one of the games, I was sitting pitchside at eye level, and it’s a different watch, the quality and speed of which they play at, some of the goals that have been scored in this fixture, I love it. For the football spectacle, the football purist, it’s one of the best games in the World. It could be anything, really, it could be a 5-0, 1-1, and it could be a 0-0. It’s a really difficult game to call, I think home advantage will help Manchester City and Liverpool’s away form has been disastrous; it kills me to go against Liverpool, I think there is no room for error when it comes to City.

I am going to go against Liverpool, I don’t usually do this many times. I think Manchester City will win it 2-1 at 6.50, and Darwin Nunez to score anytime during the match at 3.00. I went with Darwin as it’s easy to say either Haaland or Salah, I think Haaland finds it difficult against Virgil van Dijk and Konate; they have their number a little bit. I think Nunez is such an unknown quantity, and he is starting to find the rhythm; he is a handful and has bags of pace to go along with it all.

Newcastle V Man United

Again, you look at where both teams are and what they need. Manchester United are out of the title race and Newcastle had a rocky spell and kind of finding their feet again. I think Rashford had a bit of rest without being involved in international duties with England, which would help Manchester United in this game. Defensively, Newcastle has been excellent this season. I am going for a draw 1-1 for this one valued at 5.20, I am gonna go for Kieran Trippier to score anytime from a set-piece at 8.00

Premier League Title Winners

I have been saying Man City for some time now, but it’s swaying more towards Arsenal now. The way they managed to fill in the gaps when they had injuries, for example, when Gabriel Jesus was injured, Nketiah stepped up; now that Nketiah is injured, Jesus returned to the side. They have been knocked out of Europe now, which I was gutted for them actually, cause I thought they would want to win that. Now its obviously full focus on the Premier League. For Man City I just think there is something wrong there, I am gonna go for Arsenal being Premier League winners priced at 1.62.

Champions League spots

So I am going to go with Man City second, pains me to say it, but Manchester United to get third at 1.20, and you know, obviously the ones that you would throw into the mix, Newcastle a bit of a resurgence since that little bad spell that they had, they sort of rode that a little bit. The chances for the Magpies to get Champions League football is priced at 2.20. Liverpool, you cannot really rule them out can you, despite the bad results just before the international break.

Brighton, I wouldn’t see them strong enough but it would be a lovely story. I think I am going with Liverpool for fourth place. When they have been under the cosh, they had to go on long runs to try and get themselves something at the end and I still think that there is a mentality there and that they certainly feel that they can do it. If they click, as we’ve seen in little periods this season, they can do it, so I am going with Liverpool to finish fourth at 3.00.

Relegation treble

We are looking from Crystal Palace down really, I am trying to think at the top of my head in terms of managers, because Palace sacked Vieira and Roy Hodgson is in to replace him, which might bring in more stability and could well see them nick a point or two and steer them to safety. You have David Moyes at West Ham, I think that they also have enough to stay up. The ones I fear about are Bournemouth who I think will go down at 1.60 and Southampton at 1.40 which I think they are bound to drop this season. The ones that I fear the most about are Everton, I know Sean Dyche coming in and I think since they had been in this situation multiple times they might come unstuck in one of them, and I think this season they will be relegated and LV BET is pricing them to be relegated at 2.75

Evan Ferguson

At last, from an Irish perspective, we haven’t been blessed with so many strikers over the years. This is massively important at an international level; you think of all the top teams, France has Mbappe and Giroud, Spain has had some great strikers over the years and certainly, Ireland had as well in Robbie Keane back in the day it was Oldbridge, Quinn. Then we had some barren spells, certainly in the wilderness for Ireland that front line has always been a weakness. We’ve really been itching for a striker to come through and Evan Ferguson has been a bit of a revelation really, as I spoke about earlier, having that inexperience could help you. I think he has a very level head about him; it’s quite refreshing the way he talks, there is still an innocence about him, and I think that really helps him in his performances. He often plays off the cuff as if there is not a care in the world. He scored on his debut with Ireland which is obviously a dream start for him, he scored all sorts of goals, and he is yet to be a complete striker but I think he is on the way to becoming one. Really looking forward to watching him play, Brighton will have a couple of teams knocking on their door for his services
