Transfer News Update

All the clubs around the world are in the hunt to improve their squad, and this is especially the case for Premier League clubs. There is big news circulating around big names that could make their move this summer for a huge amount of money. So, let’s round up the transfer news as of the 28th of June, 2023.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS

New manager Ange Postecoglou is wasting no time fortifying his inherited squad. A swift deal was struck earlier this week with Guglielmo Vicario for a reported fee of £17.2m. The young Italian goalkeeper has had a magnificent season with Empoli, this can be a great signing for Spurs as they lack quality in the goalkeeping area with Lloris out the door.

More recent news has emerged that James Maddison is very close to finalising the move to become the second signing of Postecoglou’s era. The asking price for Maddison was initially £60m, but Spurs bid of £40m upfront has been accepted. It’s a deal that will add hope back for Tottenham, after years of trying to find a player that is able to replicate the dynamic movement of Dele Alli and the creativity of Christian Eriksen, now they found the guy that could do both and is a proven talent in the Premier League.

Despite the two new signings done, Spurs are still keen on getting more players in, especially defenders. In our blog, Who is Ange Postecoglou, we mentioned that the Australian is very good at scouting players, a rare quality that Daniel Levy hopes to save him a pretty penny going forward.

Speculation around Harry Kane is undeniable, a player of his quality can never escape the limelight. After a horrific season, finishing the season in eighth place, Kane is seriously considering a move away from his nest. Many linked him with a move to Manchester United, but their takeover limbo is hindering them from making any progress in terms of spending money, so that route is sealed off for now. The other route is leading him outside the country and into mainland Europe, specifically, Germany. It would be a drastic change of scenery for Kane should he move to Germany. Bayern Munich has tabled an offer of around €70m for his services as they continue to find a replacement for the departed Robert Lewandowski.

Daniel Levy always watered down claims that Harry Kane would leave the club, but this time around, the bids are actually coming in, and they are testing the chairman’s resolve. ARSENAL

After a season that has propelled Arsenal into a title challenge of sorts, the board are going all-in trying to get the best players in order to sustain a title fight next season. Mikel Arteta has worked wonders with what he had available, and the young players made him proud. So let’s see what business Arsenal has done in the past few weeks.

Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle with Kai Havertz worth around £65m from Chelsea. This will be the second signing that Arsenal has made from Chelsea in the past year or so following Jorginho’s signing in January. He might not be used as a striker in Mikel Arteta’s system but his ability to join the attack late and his creativity on the ball could well prove vital in games that are against tough opposition.

One of the most talked about transfers in recent weeks is the transfer of Declan Rice. We have dedicated a blog explaining what makes Rice one of the most sought-after midfielders, and why West Ham are pricing him so highly. A new improved bid has been submitted, which is reportedly around £105m which is the same as the asking price from West Ham. It’s now up to Man City to show their hand, if they wish to make an improved bid, if not, Declan Rice will join the Gunners.

Believe it or not, Arsenal are in advanced talks with Jurrien Timber, the young centre-back from Ajax. Last season, there were talks around Manchester United getting him to the Premier League, but it looks like Arsenal will get the deal done. A reported fee of around €45m, should be enough for Ajax to let go of their player.
