FIFA WORLD CUP: CROATIA V ARGENTINA – GAME PREVIEW

Croatia V Argentina

The FIFA World Cup quarter-finals have been everything but plain sailing thus far. Up next is a clash between an obstinate Croatia and a fiery Argentina, who managed to overcome their rivals Brazil and the Netherlands, respectively.

As far as the FIFA rankings are concerned, Croatia sits in 12th place, whereas Argentina occupy the third position. The last encounter between the two sides happened as recently as 2018, when Croatia thumped Argentina 3-0.

CROATIA

One shot on target was all it took for Croatia to book its game of Russian roulette with Brazil in the penalty shootout. Although seemingly isolated up front, Bruno Petkovic managed to strike late in extra time to stun the star-laden Brazilian side, which eventually crashed out of the tournament.

Bruno Petkovic to score anytime is priced at 10/3 (4.35).

Four players were just one yellow card away from suspension against Brazil, including the likes of Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic. Up against a free-flowing Argentina side, Croatia will most likely foresee an all-hands-on-deck game in which their star skippers, Modric and Brozovic, must pull together along with their robust defence.

Croatia is priced at 3/7 (5.45) to win. The scoreline to be Croatia 1-0 Argentina is priced at 10 (11.00).

ARGENTINA

Wout Weghort’s late double should serve Argentina as a defensive wake-up call. Although Argentina tends to seemingly secure victory by the end of a game, conceding late goals seems to be happening quite frequently, as we’ve seen against the Netherlands and Australia. Luckily for the South American side, a monumental Emiliano Martinez managed to save enough penalties to see his nation through to the quarter-finals.

Argentina to score in both halves is at 13/5 (3.60).

Croatia will be a tough nut to crack, but with a timeless Lionel Messi weaving his way into the heart of the defence, it’ll just be a matter of time until goal-scoring opportunities arise. Although Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel will have to sit this one out through suspension, Argentina is definitely not short of enough talent to see itself through.

Lionel Messi to score anytime is priced at 1 (2.00) and Julian Alvarez to score anytime is priced at 7/4 (5.00). The match to end in a 0-0 draw is priced at 6 (7.00).
