FIFA WORLD CUP: ECUADOR V SENEGAL – GAME PREVIEW

Ecuador V Senegal

The final fixtures of Group A are here, and at the Khalifa International Stadium, it’s going to be a thrilling encounter between Ecuador and Senegal. Just a point separates the two. Ecuador needs to avoid defeat to make sure that they make it to the knockout stage, whilst Senegal needs to win to have any chance of progression to the knockouts.

Looking at the FIFA rankings, Ecuador find themselves in 44th place, whilst Senegal is in a much better position in 18th place. This will be the first time that these two countries will meet in the FIFA World Cup.

ECUADOR

A very interesting team who managed to hold its own against the Netherlands despite going behind in the game. Their talisman, Enner Valencia, has picked up a knock in the first game against Qatar, and he seems to have not shaken it off, which will be a worry for head coach Gustavo Alfaro. A draw will be enough to see them through to the knockout stage, but that mentality could hurt their ambitions.

In the latter stages of the game against the Netherlands, Ecuador went through all the gears and almost managed to get a winner late on in the game as they hit the bar. Against Senegal, La Tri will have one less man to worry about, Sadio Mane, as he misses out through injury.

A correct score of 1-1 is priced at 24/5 (5.80), securing passage to the knockout stage with Enner Valencia to once again notch his name onto the scoresheet at 11/5 (3.20).

SENEGAL

A game of all or nothing for Senegal as anything less than a win will see them bow out in the knockout stages. After the initial loss against the Netherlands in the late stages of the game, their chances of progression are poor as they approach their last game. After winning the title of the African Cup of Nations, it will be somewhat of a disappointment to bow out in the group stage, keeping in mind that Sadio Mane is not included in the squad.

There are two Senegalese players in particular that one would expect much better. Edouard Mendy and Idrissa Gueye are the two who need to put aside their performances and focus on the task ahead, that of beating Ecuador.

A correct score win of 1-0 is priced at 21/4 (6.25), with Famara Diedhiou to score at any time during the game at 10/3 (4.35)

Match betting odds

Ecuador look to be the slight favourites to win the game at 22/15 (2.47) whilst Senegal are at 15/7 (3.15) and a draw valued at 11/5 (3.20)
