In the semi-final, Serbia football team played against Czechoslovakia but lost 3-1.

Serbia managed to win Group A in the European qualification for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on the last day of the qualifiers as they won 2-1 against Portugal. Portugal started off the best scoring within three minutes of the game but Serbia grew in the game and equalised just past the half-hour mark. But it was all decided in the closing stages when Mitrovic netted the winner and the World Cup qualification in style.
