Brazil at the FIFA World Cup

Brazil are the joint top nation to have won the most FIFA World Cups with a total of five. They are the only nation that won it twice in a row in 1958 and 1962. Later on, they reached three consecutive World Cup finals, winning two and losing out to France in the final.

The Brazil national team coach that will take them to Qatar will be Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, commonly known as Tite, who took charge of the national team in 2016. The Brazil squad has been ranked first in the FIFA World rankings tipping Belgium for the crown. Being the highest ranked by FIFA gives the whole squad great impetus to believe they have what it takes to etch their name in Brazil’s football history.

Brazil’s successes and failures at the previous FIFA World Cup

The Brazil football team have enjoyed great success in the past but with great highs also come great lows. Having such a rich history in world football, the Brazilian squad approached the 2014 FIFA World Cup with great ambition, especially as they were the host country. They lined up against Germany in the semi-final, and what followed not only shocked the Brazilian nation but the whole world.

The Brazil national team approached the game without Neymar and Thiago Silva as they were injured in the process of getting their team to the semi-finals. Thomas Muller opened the score in the 11th minute, which Miroslav Klose added to come minutes after breaking Ronaldo de Lima’s record. After conceding twice, Brazil crumbled and conceded three more goals before the halftime, making the result 5-0 in favour of the German side. Schurrle came off the bench to add insult to the injury as he scored twice to make it seven, only for Oscar to find a consolation goal for the home side. People watching were shocked, with some also crying their eyes out in disbelief.

Brazil’s road to the Qatar 2022 World Cup

Brazil took part in the CONMEBOL section of the qualifying as they topped the group with an outstanding margin of six points above rivals Argentina.

An interesting fact on the road to Qatar is that the Brazil national football team have not lost a single game in the 17 fixtures played, scoring 40 goals in the process and only conceding five – something that will go down very well with the Brazil supporters. They are still to play a game against Argentina as it was abandoned, but it will not affect the standings.

Who will Brazil play against at the Qatar 2022 World Cup?

The Brazil squad will form part of Group G of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and it will consist of Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.

Serbia nicked first place in Group A ahead of Portugal, who lost the decisive last game. Serbia won the group without registering a single loss across all qualifiers, drawing only two. A player that has taken the limelight recently is Dusan Vlahovic, who signed for Juventus in the January transfer market after setting the Serie A on fire with Fiorentina.

The Swiss team has beaten Italy in the group stages of the Qatar FIFA World Cup, as they went unbeaten, conceding just two goals in the process. Similar to the situation for Serbia, the Swiss team have an ageing squad with great players such as Xhaka and Shaqiri reaching the end of their National career.

Although the group’s underdogs, the African team will surely be up for the fight especially if they get off to a great start. The Cameroon national team will appear for the eighth time in their history. Recently, Cameroon came in third in the AFCON after beating Burkina Faso on penalties.

The fixtures for the Brazil National team are as follows:

  • Brazil vs Serbia 24th November 2022 13:00 Lusail Iconic Stadium, Lusail
  • Brazil vs Switzerland 28th November 2022 19:00 Stadium 974, Doha
