TRANSFER SPECIAL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP

Transfer Round-up

It’s time for another weekly round-up of the recent gossip around transfers, what are the big names being mentioned, and how likely they are to materialize. The main player that is being linked with a major move is Harry Kane, so let’s take a closer look at his situation as of 13th July 2023.

Harry Kane

In our last instalment of the transfer round-up, we informed you that Tottenham Hotspurs, together with Ange Postecoglou, have acted swiftly to fortify their squad. Transfers such as Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Manor Solomon as a free agent from Shaktar Donetsk. The issue going forward is the threat of losing their key player in front of goal. Harry Kane departing the North-London club is a constant story, every summer, but with just one year left on his contract, a move might actually happen this time around.

The main contenders for his signature are Bayern Munich who are yet to sign a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The bid placed by the German giants was reported to be around £70-80, despite Daniel Levy’s sticking to the figure of at least £100m.

In terms of training, now that most of the clubs are underway with their pre-season, Harry Kane actually arrived at the Tottenham training grounds alongside his teammates, so there is no unrest from his end trying to push for a move. It will be interesting to witness how this develops, with his legacy in the Premier League in the balance should he move to the Bundesliga in search of silverware. There is also the option of moving to Manchester United who are desperate for a striker but the valuation of the England captain is seen as too high by Man United.

The odds are stacked in favour of Harry Kane staying at Spurs at 1.67, whilst a move to Bayern Munich is valued at 2.37. The odds suggest that it’s more likely that he stays for the debut season of Ange Postecoglou, but with Bayern Munich in the conversation, it complicates things. David de Gea

The Spanish keeper is still without a contract, and since leaving Manchester United, is yet to be contacted. The main destination is being rumoured to be the Saudi Pro League. He is now married, so a move to the Saudi would make more sense now since there are strict rules when it comes to living with your partner.

He could also move to Atletico Madrid, the team from which Man United signed him from back in 2012. His current wife is Spanish, so she might be inclined to push De Gea to a move to her home country.

The odds are that a Saudi Pro League move is on the cards at 1.80, whilst a return to Madrid is at 3.50.

Viktor Osimhen

After a season where he and his Napoli team surprised the Serie A and took the Champions League by storm, it’s inevitable that big clubs come knocking. Aurelio De Laurentis, who is the president of the club, made his intentions clear that the striker is not for sale and if anyone wants to persuade him otherwise they would need to fork out €170m. That is a lot of money for any Premier League club to fork out at the moment, with most of the clubs already spent a good deal of money strengthening other departments of their squad.

The most persistent link is towards Manchester United, but that deal only hinges on the prospect of the takeover being given the green light. Should the club remain in the hands of the Glazers, there is no chance of the Red Devils luring Osimhen to England. The other club who reported their interest is PSG, who are also looking for a striker. From PSG’s side, it’s a matter of a reaction to what Kylian Mbappe does in this transfer window, if he stays, then they won’t have to rush things, but if he does leave, then they would be required to splash the cash to remain competitive in the Champions League.

Viktor Osimhen to PSG is the more likely scenario according to the odds at 4.50, whilst Manchester United are at 5.50 to land his signature.

Jordan Henderson

Another household name that is linked to be shipped to the Saudi Pro League is Jordan Henderson. The speculation rapidly picked up after Steven Gerrard took charge of the Al Ettifaq club. The sum offered is quite ridiculous: £700,000 a week. For a player that might not play many minutes next season with Liverpool, it’s quite a handsome offer to consider.

What will you do if you were in Jordan Henderson’s shoes, will you take the opportunity of playing in the Saudi Pro League or will you stay put at Liverpool and grind out what is left to be achieved at the club that he loves?
