WOMEN’S FIFA WORLD CUP 2023 – GROUP B PREVIEW

WOMEN’S FIFA WORLD CUP 2023 – GROUP B PREVIEW

Women;s World Cup

Welcome to the series of blogs dedicated to the Women’s FIFA World Cup 2023, where we are going through all the groups to pinpoint who is the most likely to go through to the knockout stage and who might falter in their quest.

This group has a great dynamic to it, with Australia being one of the hosts and the Republic of Ireland who are participating in their first FIFA World Cup. Nigeria managed to get into fourth place of the African Cup of Nations but are the worst in terms of World rankings when compared to it’s rivals in Group B and Canada, who are eager to impress on the big stage after sealing their 8th appearance in the finals.

Who exactly are the participants of Group B?

Australia  – AFC

The Matildas are the other hosts, together with New Zealand, keen on providing the best spectacle in front of their home fans. The Australian national team is the most beloved national sporting team in 2019, and skilled players such as Sam Kerr, who is widely regarded as one of the best soccer players. They are currently ranked in 13th place after a flurry of great results, ultimately rewarding them with the 2023 Cup of Nations after winning all of their games. More recently in a friendly, Tony Gustavsson’s team defeated the Lionesses by 2-0 in London.

This Summer, the Matildas will look to better their all-time best record of reaching the quarter-finals and hope that they can get even closer thanks to the immense support from the home crowd. We are pricing Australia winning the tournament all together at 15.00, whilst reaching the semi-final at 3.35

Republic of Ireland – UEFA

Managed to get into the finals after winning the UEFA play-offs. This will be the first appearance for the Republic of Ireland in the finals of a World Cup, and currently, they have a ranking of 24th. An impeccable record in 2022, winning all of the games they played in, either friendlies or the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and not conceding a single goal in the process; that is a majestic feat, this year though they are yet to win a friendly match and yet to score, so they really need to rekindle their fire before they travel down under.

Despite the Republic of Ireland not featuring in any of the previous tournaments, they could be a great watch. Head coach Vera Pauw would be pushing her side to be dominant and express themselves more and not let the occasion get the best of them. Ireland to reach the semi-finals is priced at 13.00.

The goals are mainly generated by the midfield pairing of Denise O’Sullivan and Katie McCabe, who have 19 and 18 goals to their names, respectively.

Nigeria – CAF

The Super Falcons are one of Africa’s most successful international women’s football teams, winning a record 11 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles, the most recent one coming in 2018. The team is also the only women’s national team from the Confederation of African Football to have reached the quarter-finals in both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and Football at the Summer Olympics.

A great observation is that in the majority of their games, they do not tend to win or lose by a large margin; the games are decided by a maximum of one or two goals. This would come in handy when placing your bets on.

It will be a tough ask for the Nigerian Women to make it out of the Group, we are pricing them at 47.00 to reach the semi-final.

Canada – CONCACAF

Canada has a great squad and tends to do well in FIFA World Cups, in 2003, they managed to get fourth place, which was the best result in such a competition. The qualification was secured after they came in second in the 2022 CONCACAF Championship. Their head coach Bev Preistman will hope that their superiority can be showcased and make it easy for the North Americans to make it out of the group.

In Group B, Canada are the highest-ranked team, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if they win the group, we are pricing their chances of reaching the semi-final at 5.55.
